BRASELTON, Ga.—Sarah Cattaneo and Chris Puskar have very different backgrounds at Road Atlanta, but the co-drivers of the No. 198 RSR Motorsports Honda Civic Si will both be expecting good results during Saturday’s GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race.
Cattaneo is preparing for her first race at the historic 2.54-mile track, but she had the chance to test there with RSR at the end of last season. “The track is amazing: it’s super fast and I’ m excited to go and race there for the first time,” she says. “It seems like a good horsepower track, and I think the Hondas will excel there. The esses are a lot of fun and 10a and b are a lot of fun, too.”
The 2013 season is Cattaneo’s first in the Honda. In the past, she has favored small, tight tracks. Now, she is quickly developing a preference for fast tracks like Road Atlanta. “With the Honda, we finally have some power for the high speed tracks, and that makes them a lot more fun,” she says.
While Cattaneo is looking forward to a career first, Puskar is anxious to continue his long history at Road Atlanta. His last pro race there was in 2005, when he took 5th in Pro Spec Miata. He also claimed the fastest lap and was the Hard Charger of the race. More recently, Puskar took a third and a second during an SCCA National in March.
Road Atlanta also has some family ties for Puskar. “I’m really excited because Road Atlanta is close to home so my family will all be there. It will be great to have them there. My dad used to race there years ago in the mid-80s, so it’s always been a track that I love,” he says.
“Road Atlanta has great elevation and it’s really a fun track to drive. I never thought we’d race there because of the wall between ALMS and GRAND-AM, so I’m really excited,” Puskar continues. “I think it’s going to be a good track for the Hondas: it tends to favor horsepower and the Hondas make decent power, plus they’re handling well now.”
Cattaneo and Puskar will be joined by their RSR Motorsports teammates, including Andrew Novich and Tom Dyer in the No. 196 US LED/Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si, and Owen Trinkler and Corey Fergus in the No. 197 Cruise America/Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si.
The three RSR Motorsports Hondas will take the green flag at 11:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 20. The 2.5-hour race at Road Atlanta will also be broadcast on SPEED on Saturday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m.
