DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—RSR Motorsports overcame a number of setbacks to earn a top-15 finish for all three of their Honda Civic Si entries during Friday’s GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

Corey Fergus and Owen Trinkler led the way for RSR Motorsports, finishing 12th in the No. 197 Cruise America/Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si. Fergus led the Street Tuner class for a while during his opening stint in the 2.5-hour race before handing over the Honda to Trinkler.

During the pit stop and driver change, a spacer on the right front wheel came off, forcing an extra stop. The No. 197 went a lap down, but Trinkler got back on the lead lap and worked his way up to 12th.

“We had a good race, and considering the setback we had, we came out of Daytona okay,” says Trinkler. “We got some good points and the cars are still intact in a race that historically has a lot of crashes. Now we get to move on to tracks that are well suited to the Honda, and our season can really get underway.”

“We were definitely expecting a higher finish, but given the circumstances, 12th was quite surprising. The guys worked really hard to get us back on the lead lap, and Owen did an awesome stint that got us back into the race,” Fergus notes. “It was really fun to get back into the car, and all in all, it was a good weekend for the team.”

Andrew Novich and Tom Dyer finished 14th in the No. 196 Honda Civic Si. Dyer ran as high as fifth during the second half of the race, but fading brakes forced him to slow his pace.

Sarah Cattaneo and Chris Puskar were 15th in the No. 198 Honda Civic Si, despite having to make two extra pit stops for a wheel problem. The RSR veterans were able to stay on the lead lap to keep all three RSR entries in the top 15.

RSR Motorsports plans to do some testing in February before round two at the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, on March 2. In the meantime, fans can find RSR Motorsports both on TV and online. The Daytona race will air on SPEED on Saturday, February 2, at 4:00 p.m. ET, and the team is online at and
